Irish consumers will shell out up to €14.1 billion a year by 2020 on commerce sites, but more the half of that spend will go to retailers outside the country. (Irish Times, 2016)
This shocking quote is a wake up call to retail SME’s in Ireland who do not already have e-commerce facilities in place. Businesses who do not adapt to the changing trend of online purchasing run the risk of lost revenue, slower growth and worse. The time has come for these SME’s to take action and get an e-commerce website.
One way in which the Irish Government has intervened is to introduce the trading online voucher grant. Up to €2,500 is available in matching funding to help businesses create e-commerce websites and lessen the costs involved.
Depending on the amount of products a business has, e-commerce websites can cost anything from €1,800 upwards. The scheme is a fantastic opportunity for SME’s to get their online shop created at half the cost. It won’t be around forever so the time to act is now.
